KLE Implements an Energy-Saving Fan Blade Replacement Solution for LSP Air Cooling Tower System

2025

In petrochemical plants, air cooling tower systems play an important role in supporting stable plant operation. The fan assembly is one of the key components in these systems, as it directly affects airflow, heat exchange performance, and power consumption during operation.

At LSP, KLE carried out a fan blade replacement solution using Cofimco TD40 energy-saving fan blades. KLE’s scope included supplying the equipment, supervising the installation, and supporting commissioning at site.

1. Fan Blades and System Performance

In an air cooling tower system, fan blades help create and maintain the airflow required for heat exchange. Their performance can affect both the cooling efficiency of the equipment and the amount of power consumed during operation.

When the existing blades are no longer well-suited to actual operating conditions, the system may need more energy to maintain the required cooling performance. For this reason, reviewing the fan blade condition and selecting a suitable replacement can be a practical way to improve the performance of an operating system.

2. Energy-Saving Requirement at LSP

Based on the customer’s operating needs, the project focused on improving the energy efficiency of the fan assembly while maintaining stable cooling system performance.

This was especially important because auxiliary systems in petrochemical plants often operate continuously, making long-term energy cost control a key consideration.

To address this requirement, KLE proposed replacing the existing fan blades with Cofimco TD40 energy-saving blades, which were more suitable for the actual operating conditions at site. The solution focused on a specific technical component, helping to improve performance without major changes to the overall system.

3. KLE’s Scope of Work

For this project, KLE supplied the Cofimco TD40 energy-saving fan blades for the air cooling tower system at LSP. KLE’s technical team also supervised the installation process and supported commissioning after the replacement was completed.

This helped ensure that the new fan blades were installed properly and that the system was checked before being put back into stable operation.

4. Solution Highlights

The strength of this solution was its focused and practical approach. Instead of replacing the entire system, KLE worked on the fan assembly, which has a direct impact on airflow and energy consumption.

This allowed the customer to improve operational efficiency using the existing equipment, while keeping the level of system intervention limited. It is a practical option for operating plants that want to optimize performance through targeted technical improvements.

5. Results After Implementation

After installation and commissioning, the Cofimco TD40 energy-saving fan blades achieved approximately 20% energy saving compared with the previous blades.

Based on this result, the customer estimated a cost saving of around USD 21,000 per fan set per year. This shows how a suitable technical solution can help reduce energy consumption and support long-term operating cost control.

6. Value Delivered

This project shows the value of selecting the right area for improvement in an operating system. By replacing the existing fan blades with energy-saving blades, the customer was able to reduce power consumption without replacing the entire equipment.

The project also reflects KLE’s ability to support customers through practical engineering solutions, from equipment supply and installation supervision to commissioning support at site. Through this approach, KLE helps customers improve operational efficiency and better manage operating costs in demanding industrial environments.
