Mechanical Seal & Seal Plan Upgrade for Pump P-1607 at Ca Mau GPP Plant – Ca Mau Gas Company

In 2024, Khanh Linh Equipment & Engineering JSC (KLE) implemented a project to upgrade the Mechanical Seal and Seal Plan system for the hydrocarbon pump (tag P-1607) at the Ca Mau Gas Processing Plant (GPP), under PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation – Ca Mau Gas Company. The project was undertaken to enhance operational reliability while meeting increasingly stringent technical requirements for process pumping systems in the gas industry.

Within the project scope, one of the key work packages involved upgrading the existing component – type mechanical seal (double seal) to a dual cartridge seal configuration. A key design enhancement of the solution was the application of diamond-coated inboard seal faces. This enhancement significantly improves wear resistance under severe operating conditions, extends the service life of the mechanical seal and ensures reliable sealing performance with stable dual–level leakage control throughout continuous pump operation.

In parallel, the Seal Plan system was upgraded from API Plan 14/52 to Plan 53B, providing enhanced proactive protection by pressurizing the barrier fluid above the process pressure. This solution effectively minimizes the risk of leakage of flammable process fluids to the environment, thereby improving overall safety for both operating personnel and equipment.

Following installation, the system was commissioned, test-run, and continuously monitored with periodic parameter recording over a 72-hour period. The results confirmed that pump P-1607 operated stably and fully met the technical requirements specified by the owner. Final acceptance and official handover were conducted after one year of operation, during which no abnormalities or failures were recorded, as evidenced by the customer’s performance evaluation.

This project serves as a clear testament to KLE’s technical expertise, experience in selecting high-quality equipment, and proven reliability in delivering Mechanical Seal and Seal Plan upgrade solutions—contributing to optimized operational performance and extended equipment lifecycle for industrial facilities in general, and the gas industry in particular.
